Abstract Isomerization of olefins, in particular the useful transformation of allyl to vinyl ethers is catalyzed by the hexaaquaruthenium(II) ion, producing the (E)-isomers under mild conditions. Ring-opening metathesis polymerization of strained bicyclic olefins is catalyzed by [Ru(H 2 O) 6] 2+ under mild conditions 1. Since solvents such as H 2 O or EtOH can be used 2, 3, this reaction is attractive with respect to ecological considerations. In analogy to Mo-, W-, or Ti-containing catalysts 4, 5, carbene intermediates have been postulated also for complexes of the iron triad. Experimental evidence for these species has recently been demonstrated for the case of ruthenium phosphines 6. In the presence of [Ru(H 2 O) 6] 2+, acyclic olefins like allylic ethers and allylic alcohols do not undergo the expected metathesis reaction but show a migration of the C=C bond 3. In this communication, we report on the range of olefin rearrangements catalyzed by [Ru(H 2 O) 6] 2+ and on the kinetics for specific examples. Table. Rearrangement Products Substrate a Product b Hex-1-ene (E)-Hex-2-ene (87) (E)-Hex-3-ene (13) (Z)-Hex-2-ene (Z)-Hex-2-ene (31) (E)-Hex-2-ene (31) (E)-Hex-3-ene (38) (E)-Hex-2-ene (E)-Hex-2-ene (59) (E)-Hex-3-ene (41) (E)-Hex-3-ene (E)-Hex-3-ene (90) (Z)-Hex-2-ene (10) Hex-5-en-1-ol Hex-5-ene-1-ol (15) Hex-4-ene-1-ol (85) 4-Allyl-1, 2-dimethoxybenzene 3, 4-Dimethoxy-1-propenylbenzene (>99) 4-Allyl-2-methoxyphenol 2-Methoxy-4-propenylphenol (>99) Allyl phenyl ether Phenyl propenyl ether (>99) d Methylidenecyclopentane c Methylidenecyclopentane (60) 1-Methylcyclopentene (40) Notes: a) Acyclic olefins which showed no reaction, hex-5-en-2-on, hept-6-enoic acid, 2-methylbut-1-ene, 2-methylbut-2-ene. b) Percentage in brackets; determined by NMR. c) Only successful rearrangement with cyclic olefins. Nonreactive species: methylidene- cyclohexane, methylidenecyclobutane, 4-vinylcyclohex-1-ene, vinylcyclohexene. d) Either (Z)- or (E)-isomer, 3 J olefin = 13 Hz. Terminal olefins are converted in high yield into the thermodynamically more stable internal olefins Note 1. The process is stereospecific producing the (E)-isomer ( Table), except for (E)-hex-3-ene where a small amount of (Z)-hex-2-ene is also formed Note 2. We propose the C=C bond migration to proceed via formation of an olefin complex of Ru. Facile substitution of one or several H 2 O ligands by pi-acidic ligands is a well-documented reaction 7, 8. 4-Allyl-2-methoxyphenol is converted to 2-methoxy-4-propenylphenol by catalytic amounts of [Ru(H 2 O) 6] 2+. The concentration decrease of 4-allyl-2-methoxyphenol with time follows first-order behavior for as long as 50000 s at 31C Note 3. This observation is a strong indication that the substitution of one H 2 O molecule of [Ru(H 2 O) 6] 2+ by 4-allyl-2-methoxyphenol is the rate-determining step. From the measurement of the temperature dependence of this reaction, the following kinetic parameters are derived: k 298 (3. 8 0. 1) 10 -5 s -1, ΔH* = 44. 7 2 kJmol -1, and ΔS = -180. 1 6. 5 JK -1 ·mol -1. The quite large negative value of ΔS* indicates an associative pathway of the reaction. Further studies will deal with the reaction pathway for this isomerization process and its relation to olefin metathesis. Figure. Time dependence of the concentration of hex-1-ene, hex-2-ene and hex-3-ene in the isomerization with [Ru(H 2 O) 6 (tos) 2] as catalyst at 309 K in (D 6)EtOH The same reaction was studied for hex-1-ene. Its concentration decreases linearly with time up to 90% conversion. At this point, the subsequent formation of hex-3-ene begins ( Fig. ). Since hex-2-ene is the only detectable product at the beginning of the reaction. and since its concentration decreases upon formation of hex-3-ene. we conclude that the migration of the C=C bond occurs stepwise. i. e. hex-1-ene → hex-2-ene → hex-3-ene. Rearrangement of allylic ethers and alcohols in aqueous solution 3 with [Ru(H 2 O) 6 (tos) 2] (tos = p-toluenesulfonate) also works in (D 6)EtOH or in THF with [Ru(H 2 O) 6 (trif) 2] (trif = trifluoromethanesulfonate) 9 as catalysts: our experiments demonstrate that allyl phenyl ether is quantitatively converted to the phenyl vinyl ether at room temperature (12 h) with small amounts of catalyst. This opens applications in organic protecting-group chemistry. The base- and acid-stable allyl derivates of alcohols, acids, or carbonyl compounds can be converted to the corresponding acid-labile vinyl derivates on heating in presence of Pd/C 10 or with tris (triphenylphosphane)rhodium(I) chloride at 60-80C for several hours or leaving the mixture at room temperature for several days 11. The exceedingly mild reaction conditions with [Ru(H 2 O) 6 (trif) 2] as well as its solubility in a variety of organic solvents makes it an interesting catalyst for the cleavage of protecting groups via isomerization and acid-catalyzed hydrolysis. For a typical experiment, 5 mg of [Ru(H 2 O) 6] 2+ was dissolved in 25 ml of D 2 O in a NMR tube and diluted with 400l of (D 6)EtOH. The olefin (100 l) was injected, and the NMR tube was kept at 35C for one day. Owing to the facile oxidation of [Ru(H 2 O) 6] 2+, all these operations were carried out under Ar. The configuration of the products was determined by observation of 3 J olefinic coupling constants in 1 H-NMR ( 3 JZ, < 10, 3 JE > 13 Hz) or by comparison with 13 C-NMR spectra of the pure substances. A typical kinetic run consisted of the following, to 200 ul of a stock solution of 0. 0453 M [Ru(H 2 O) 6] 2+ in a mixture of (D 6)EtOH/D 2 O 15:1 was added 100 µl of olefin. The mixture was then diluted with (D 6)EtOH to e total of 500 µl. and the NMR tube was placed into the thermostated compartment. All solvents were Ar-saturated, and the reactions took place in Ar-filled NMR tubes.

I really really really hope they dont pull the “chosen one” trope for this version like they were going to do at the conception of this project. They were going to have her be the answer to a prophecy for some special power to fight the witch. The WHOLE POINT of Mulan is that she ISNT the chosen one. Shes in the army by her own free will as a sacrifice to save her father and that makes her strong and respectable as a character. Shes my favorite Disney character. If they do that trope, I dont think the movie can be saved.

DOSE: 12 tablets oral Dimenhydrinate (pill / tablet) 8 tablets Pharms - Meclizine You wanna lose your mind? Take some Dramamine. Yeah, the anti-motion sickness medicine your mom used to give you on long car trips. But you say, that just made me drowsy and fall asleep, how does that count for losing your mind? Well, thats because you were taking at most two of the sleep aid/motion sickness remedy. Let me tell you a little story about when I decided to take 20 of the damn things. To begin, Im a pretty smart guy. Im going to a good college, majoring in philosophy, and getting straight As. I should know better than to screw around with pharmaceutical drugs at high doses, but alas, my intelligence failed me this last summer. I went out of my way to party as much as I could this summer as during the school year my time is pretty much monopolized by school work. I drank a lot of beer, smoked a lot of weed, took a lot of mushrooms. It was a fun time all in all, but then came a July night where everything went quite wrong. I was over at a friends house when we felt the need to get high. With no money to hook up a sack of weed and no one to buy us beer, we began to brainstorm other ways to get high. My friend innocently suggested that we could take some Dramamine, I think half jokingly. However, I was compelled to actually go through on this suggestion and get some. I took it that night and not much happened, I got tired and fell to sleep. I thought it was a pretty big letdown and left it at that. The next week however, already stoned and drunk, I jokingly suggested to another friend that we trip on some Dramamine. This time, however, I grabbed all they had left, and ended up taking 20 of them: 12 regular Dramamine (dimenhydrinate) and 8 Dramamine II less drowsy formula meclizine). My friend didnt feel much from them and ended up heading home early because they made him really tired. It was about the same for me, an overwhelming sense of exhaustion for a couple hours, and then it happened. A steady, constant noise started up in my head. A whump! Whump! WHUMP! repeating over and over in my mind. I began to feel a strong charge to my chest each time this sound came as well. My body shook violently in chorus to the noise that seemed to be coming from the TV. The exhaustion had become an insane body high and I had begun hearing voices. It was frightening as the voices didnt seem like hallucinations but honest to God people talking to me. I heard my name being whispered and yelled, and saw and heard things in the television that werent there. I was apparently watching the cartoon The Critic but it appeared to be some kind of nightmarish childrens show. It was vague and I was quite delirious at this point, but I started panicking and decided to go home. This is where the real problem began. I drove to my friend's house that night. Im not a big fan of drunk driving, but I thought I was fine to drive home on Dramamine. Well, it all was vague at this point, but I drove around my friend's neighborhood, a very familiar neighborhood for a solid hour, going in a circle. I was completely unaware of where I was going and how to get there. Also I was incredibly tired, it was about 1 am and I had woken up early that day, which coupled with all this Dramamine was enough to knock an elephant out. Thus, for reasons I cannot explain, I decided to take a nap in my car. I didnt pull over for this nap, or even turn off the car. I just put it in park and fell asleep at a stop sign. I must have been out for 15 solid minutes until a car final came up behind me and began honking until I moved. I was terrified at what I had just done but still was quite delirious. I was hearing all kinds of nightmarish voices calling my name and that when the visuals kicked in. Mailboxes transformed into red eyed demons, charging at my car. I swerved to dodge them like they were real. I rocked from one side of the street to the other, avoid demons and imaginary children, while going about 55 mph in this small neighborhood. And thats when I noticed a cop without his lights on was following me. I noticed him about the time I finally found my way out the neighborhood and onto a main street. I have no idea how long he was following me, but it was clear I was intoxicated and driving like an idiot. Once I reached the main street, he pulled me over and I figured this was it. Goodbye to my scholarship, goodbye to my parents trust, goodbye to my friends, goodbye to freedom. This officer was clearly suspicious of me, but for some reason I have yet to discover, he cut me slack. In my delirium, I couldnt even tell him where I was from, and changed my story about five time in the period of two minutes. On top of that I couldnt even find my registration that was sitting on top of everything in my glove compartment. This cop, however, didnt even care. He told me he just wanted to make sure I was alright and that I was going to make it home safe. After running my license to make sure I had no warrants for my arrest he let me go home. Well, the adrenaline from that scare kept me awake and got me home in one piece, but I realize how lucky and just how fucking stupid I was that night. I took ten times the suggested dosage of a over the counter drug that I had little experience with, and furthermore attempted to drive on it, while still somewhat drunk and high. Im lucky I didnt die, Im lucky didnt kill someone, and Im very lucky that I wasnt arrested. I dont know what possessed that officer to show mercy on me, but I thank my stars everyday. I will never touch that crap again, and I recommend to any of you, unless you have a death wish, to never under any circumstances try and trip off Dramamine. Its depressing, frightening, dangerous, and disassociating. Stick to weed, alcohol, mushrooms, LSD, or anything else but this. Trust me, its not worth it. Brahms: The Boy II is an exciting new addition to the series, but the events of the film drastically change what the original film establishes. Brahms: The Boy II is the latest horror sequel to hit theaters and while it’s an interesting addition to the series, the events of the film largely reverse everything that the first movie works to establish. Evil doll movies can be a surprisingly fun niche of the horror genre. Recent films like Child’s Play and the Annabelle franchise have not just reminded audiences of how entertaining a tiny murderer can be, but they’ve also been very successful. Brahms: The Boy II attempts to capitalize on that success and tries to turn Brahms into a household name when it comes to demon dolls. Accordingly, The Boy II takes some big swings that result in a major change fort the direction of the film series. Continue scrolling to keep reading Click the button below to start this article in quick view. A major factor in what makes the original The Boy so entertaining is that it plays with the audience’s expectations as to whether the Brahms doll is really living and evil or not. Films like Annabelle do the same thing, but the audiences inherently know the doll is possessed or haunted. The Boy actually breaks that convention only to reveal that there’s actually an orphan—the “real” Brahms—who’s been living and hiding in the walls. It’s a great turn, but when Brahms: The Boy II comes around it tells a very different story. The Boy 2 Retcons Brahms Completely - Does This Work? Curiously, Brahms: The Boy II goes in the complete opposite direction of its predecessor and states that the Brahms doll is unequivocally evil. The end of The Boy hints that the living Brahms might still be alive, but that’s no longer the case. When the history of the Brahms doll is looked into, it’s discovered that it’s possessed with demonic activity and it causes children to kill their parents in its search for a human host. The Boy II turns Brahms into a demon who wants to be human, which is a much more supernatural angle than the first movie, but it’s a less original take on the character. What’s so distressing about turning Brahms into a demon doll is that it reduces him to a character that’s pretty much identical to Chucky or Annabelle, but just much less interesting. Furthermore, it doesn’t just change the angle of the series, but it retroactively changes the motivations of the human Brahms in the first film to make him a slave of a demon curse and not some disturbed recluse. It’s a decision that’s not only uninteresting for the sequel, but it actively hurts the original movie. This is even more confusing since William Brent Bell is the director for both films, so he breaks his own story. The direction that Brahms: The Boy II takes is ultimately disappointing, but it does hold some potential for the future of the series, since it allows the Brahms spirit to possess humans and continue to evolve in new ways. Or maybe the whole backstory will get changed again.
